The Black and Asian Cinematic Coalition was a Film and Arts event hosted on November 26, 2021, in Detroit, Michigan. The event premiered the short films “Sinners and Saint” (Dir: Jerod Willis) and “For Your Convenience” (Dir: Aronjonel Villaflor), which depicted the ongoing struggles of the African American and Asian American communities respectively. The premieres were met with overwhelming support, as both screenings were sold out. The program also included screenings of the short film “Anak” (Dir: Lou Pastrana) and the short documentary “Echoes” (Dir: Caleb Joye), alongside performances from Detroit artists Toron and Lito. Each screening was accompanied by a Q&A and discussion led by Ronia Cabansag (Michigan Public Radio). The goal of the event was to promote solidarity between the African American and Asian American communities, highlight the works of rising local artists, and provide a safe platform to discuss the issues the films touched upon.
